Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than in the usual fog.

Paws by Ciroa is a brand of Jamesly Pty Ltd, ABN 94 672 771 630, of Unit 403 Level 4, 282 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022, Australia. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

Only what we need to sell you something and get it to you.

Your details. Name, email address, delivery address, and phone number if you give us one.
Order information. What you bought, when, what you paid, and your order history. We do not see or store your full card number.
What you tell us about your pet. If you take our quiz, that includes their name, their age bracket, their coat, their skin and how they feel about bath time. This is not sensitive personal information about you, and we use it to recommend products and to write better emails.
Marketing preferences. Whether you ticked the box, and whether you have since unsubscribed.
How you use the site. Pages viewed, what you added to your cart, the device and browser you used, and an approximate location from your IP address.
Anything you send us. Emails, reviews, photos, and messages about an order.

How we collect it

Usually directly from you, when you order, create an account, take the quiz, subscribe, enter a competition or event offer, or contact us. Some of it is collected automatically by cookies and similar technologies while you browse. Occasionally we receive information from a service we use, for example a delivery status from a carrier or a payment result from a payment provider.

Why we use it

To take, process and deliver your order, and to contact you about it.
To handle returns, refunds and any problem with a product.
To recommend products, including through the quiz.
To send you marketing emails, if you asked for them.
To improve the site, our products and our copy.
To detect and prevent fraud, and to keep the site secure.
To meet our legal and tax obligations.

We will not use your information for something unrelated to those purposes without telling you first.

Marketing, and how to stop it

We only send marketing emails to people who have asked for them. Every one has an unsubscribe link, one tap, and we act on it promptly. You will still receive transactional messages such as order confirmations and shipping updates, because we need those to get your order to you.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we never will. We do share it with the services that make the shop work, and only so far as they need it to do their job for us:

Our ecommerce platform, which hosts the store and processes orders.
Payment providers, who process your payment. They receive your payment details directly; we do not.
Our email platform, which sends order notifications and, if you subscribed, marketing.
Delivery carriers, who receive your name, address and phone number so they can deliver your parcel.
Analytics and advertising services, which receive site usage data.
Professional advisers and regulators, where the law requires it.

Information sent overseas

Some of the services above store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you would like to know which providers we currently use and where they are located, email us and we will tell you.

Artificial intelligence

Some of the software we use involves artificial intelligence. It helps us draft and improve our copy, and it helps our quiz point you somewhere sensible. Section 16 of our Terms of service sets this out in full.

No decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you is made by automated means alone. A person handles refunds, returns and any dispute, and you can always ask to speak to one.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, understand which pages are useful, and measure whether our advertising works. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site, including the cart, may stop working properly if you do.

Keeping it safe

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, and we hold it on platforms that do the same. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but if a data breach ever occurred that was likely to cause you serious harm we would notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the law requires.

How long we keep it

Order and transaction records are kept for at least seven years, because tax law requires it. Marketing subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Quiz answers are kept while they are still useful for recommending products to you. Everything else is kept only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it.

Seeing your information, and correcting it

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@ciroapaws.com and we will respond within 30 days.

We may need to verify who you are before we act, and there are some things we cannot delete, such as order records we are legally required to keep.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information

Tell us first, at hello@ciroapaws.com. We take complaints seriously and we will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date below tells you when it last changed.
